Atletico to go for Barcelona's Lewandowski

Robert Lewandowski is Atletico Madrid's main target. The 'Colchonero' side would like to have the Polish striker next season. They could take advantage of the 'Cules' financial problems to try to sign him.

The journalist Ruben Uria, on his Twitch channel, was the one who raised the alarm about the 'Colchonero' interest in the Barcelona striker. The Catalan club, in turn, would be "anxious" to get rid of the No. 9.

Lewandowski has reiterated time and again that he wants to continue in the 'Cules' ranks, with whom he has a contract until 2026. That said, the Catalan giants' coffers could change everything.

Atletico need a top level No. 9 in the face of the goal drought that Alvaro Morata and Memphis Depay have had. All this, of course, if the Madrid side qualify for the next edition of the Champions League.

Another factor, in economic terms, is who will qualify for the Club World Cup. If Barcelona finally do, the accounts will be better as they will receive 50 million euros just for participating. If Atletico do it, it is a good amount to try to land the Pole.

Following in the footsteps of Suarez and Depay's moves

The Polish striker would not be the first Barcelona striker to take the flight to Madrid. Several players in recent years have done so, from David Villa to Antoine Griezmann or Memphis Depay. But without a doubt, the one who most resembles this case is Luis Suarez.

With no place at Barcelona, the Uruguayan striker finished his contract and left for Atletico Madrid in 2020. There, at the Metropolitano, the Uruguayan became an idol and was able to win La Liga under Simeone.

The fact that he is a veteran striker, eager to make a name for himself in a place that closes its doors to him, as long as Barcelona need to sell him, and in the last years of his career, makes the parallel obvious. Same case as with Villa.

However, the big difference is that Suarez arrived at Atletico Madrid for free, after finishing his contract, and Lewandowski would arrive on a transfer for a good sum of money.
