Armenia captain puts football on hold... to go to war

Players stop play temporarily for many reasons: wife is pregnant, family bereavement, injured... but Varazdat Haroyan has done so for a completely different one.

The player is the captain of Armenia, and with Azerbaijan and Armenia involved in a war, the player has decided to answer his country's call and go and fight for his nation.

He last played for FC Ural in Russia's top flight but has only managed one match this season. He has been capped 52 times by his country and played in their international matches in September.

He was about to sign for Greek side Larissa when he decided that he would go to combat.
