Argentine prodigy Echeverri joins Man City team

Claudio Echeverri has officially landed at the Etihad Stadium to begin his journey with Manchester City. The Citizens announced the transfer of the 19-year-old in June 2024, splashing 14.5 million euros to secure one of River Plate's talents dazzling in the Argentinian league.
Echeverri remained on loan with 'Los Millonarios' until last month but has finally joined the defending Premier League champions after leading Argentina's Under 20s squad in the South American Championship with the captain's armband on, finishing the tournament as runners-up.
"Claudio Echeverri has joined up with Pep Guardiola’s City squad for the first time. The Argentine attacking midfielder signed for the Club in January 2024 but remained on loan at River Plate until last month," reads a statement from the English side.
Speaking on his arrival, the teenage sensation said: "Manchester City are one of the best teams in the world. Not only do they win trophies, they play the game so beautifully. They are an example to everyone – they show people how to play football the best way.
“To be part of this team and the culture here at City – and use this as my basis to develop my game – is something I am really excited about. My family and I are so proud to be here. My focus now is on working as hard as I can in training to show the manager and his staff I am good enough to be part of this team."
Midfielder Echeverri has put pen to a contract that will see him stay with the Sky Blues until June 2028 and has chosen the No. 30 shirt, notably worn by Otamendi. He is the 12th Argentinian to join the club, following the footsteps of the likes of Zabaleta, Tevez, Aguero, Caballero, Otamendi, Demichelis, Perrone and Alvarez.
