Another positive test for Inter: the derby is now in danger

Inter Milan announced on Sunday that Englishman Ashley Young has tested positive for coronavirus, taking the number of positive cases within Antonio Conte's squad to six, with less than a week to go before the Milan derby.

"Inter Milan confirm that Ashley Young has tested positive for COVID-19 in a test carried out yesterday (Saturday) at the Appiano Gentile. The English footballer is already in quarantine at home", said the Milanese club in a statement.

Young's positive case adds to those announced in recent days including Alessandro Bastoni, Roberto Gagliardini, the Belgian Radja Nainggolan, the Slovakian Milan Skriniar, and the Romanian Ionut Radu.

The health protocol outlined by the Italian FA says that when a player tests positive for Coronavirus, the affected club must isolate those infected and test all squad members. Those who test negative are able to continue training and play in Serie A.

In order to have the right to play, a club must have 13 players, including a goalkeeper, available. For that reason, the Milan derby on 17th October isn't in doubt as it stands.

Inter, who have started their league campaign with two wins and a draw, will open their Champions League campaign on 21st October at the home of Borussia Monchengladbach. That is followed by a game against Shakhtar on the 27th and a visit to Real Madrid on the 3rd of November.

The return fixture against Madrid will take place on the 25th of November at the San Siro.
