Ancelotti sentenced to one year in jail for tax fraud in 2014

Former Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has been sentenced to one year in prison for an offence against the tax authorities relating to the 2014 tax year, while he has been acquitted of a similar offence relating to 2015.
Legal sources informed 'EFE' that section 30 of the Provincial Court of Madrid sentenced him, in relation to the 2014 fraud, also to a fine of 386,361.93 euros and the loss of the possibility of obtaining public aid or subsidies and the right to enjoy tax or Social Security benefits or incentives for three years. However, the Italian will not have to go to prison.
Although he has been acquitted of an alleged personal income tax fraud in 2015, the court establishes that the civil liability derived from the penalty is declared in favour of the Public Treasury in the amount of 386,361.93 euros.
The prosecution accused the former Real Madrid coach of having defrauded the public treasury of 1,062,079 euros in the tax years of 2014 (386,361 euros) and 2015 (675,718 euros) during the first stage in which the Italian coached Real Madrid.
During the trial, held on 2nd and 3rd April at the Madrid court, Ancelotti said that he never thought of defrauding the tax authorities and that he did what he was told by the club and his advisors, asked for his acquittal and, if convicted, asked for the mitigating circumstances of reparation of the damage to be applied, having paid off the debt by December 2021, and undue delay.
