Amorim, Fernandes and Dalot honour Jota and Silva in Anfield ceremony

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim was accompanied to Anfield Stadium by players Bruno Fernandes and Diogo Dalot to pay tribute to Diogo Jota and his brother Andre Silva. Both brothers, aged 28 and 25 respectively, tragically died on 3 July in a road accident in the Spanish province of Zamora.
Fernandes and Dalot were Jota's international team-mates and were part of the Portugal squad that won the UEFA Nations League in 2019. The Manchester United delegation laid flowers outside Anfield, where numerous expressions of sympathy have gathered since the news of the death.
"Rest in peace Diogo and Andre," read the floral wreath, accompanied by a message: "With deepest condolences from everyone at Manchester United." Liverpool, the club to which Jota belonged, has decided to retire the number 20 shirt worn by the striker at all levels.
On 13 July, Liverpool played their first game after the incident, a friendly against Preston at the Deepdale Stadium. During the match, a number of tributes were held, including an emotional minute's silence and the playing of the anthem dedicated to Jota.
Manchester United's gesture has been received with respect in the English football environment, underlining the unity beyond sporting rivalries.
