Al-Khelaifi asked Laporta to give up on the “stupid” Super League

The president of PSG and the European Club Association (ECA), Nasser Al-Khelaifi, revealed on Wednesday that a few days ago when he met Barcelona president Joan Laporta, he asked him "when are they going to stop the stupid idea of the Super League."

“I have always said that the Super League is not going to exist. The Champions League is the best competition in the world for everyone, and those clubs (Barcelona and Real Madrid) are playing in the Champions League because they know how important it is. I hope they stop it soon, because it doesn't make sense. I have always said that the door to return is open," he said.

Al-Khelaifi said he was ‘proud of the unity of the clubs’ of the association, which has reached 610 members, in a meeting with the media on the occasion of the ECA Council meeting in Madrid at the Civitas Metropolitano stadium, accompanied by Atletico Madrid CEO Miguel Angel Gil Marín and Real Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay, both of whom are members.

Al-Khelaifi said he was also "proud" to have two Spanish members on the ECA board and said that "the Spanish league and its clubs are very important" for the association. "Conflicts in Spain do not benefit anyone, everyone is going to be harmed. I hope there will be unity among the stakeholders in Spanish football. It will also be good for European football," he added.

"We talk a lot here, but outside Spain, the Super League is dead. What the ECA, UEFA and the European leagues are defending is to protect the structure. If you close the door of the competitions to several clubs you are destroying the dreams of many people," said Atletico boss Miguel Angel Gil Marin.

On 14 March, the Superliga trial was sentenced after the oral hearing was held in the 17th Commercial Court of Madrid.
