Ajax's Eredivisie clash against Utrecht cancelled following police strikes

Ajax last played an Eredivisie match on 18th August against NAC Breda, a game that ended in a 2-1 defeat for the capital club. They will not be back in the Eredivisie until 18th September, when they face Fortuna Sittard. The reason for this is the suspension of two matches, in addition to the international break.

The police strike in the Netherlands has already forced the postponement of the match against Feyenoord, originally scheduled for 1st September. The ‘Klassieker’ will now be played on Wednesday 30th October. Rotterdam was already affected by the strike of this security body, a situation that is occurring in more parts of the country.

For the same reason, Ajax-Utrecht, which was due to be played on 15th September, has also been postponed and will have to be rescheduled. These two match, together with the international break for national team commitments, have lightened the schedule for the Dutch side, although they will be even busier once the fixtures have been rescheduled.

In this period, Francesco Farioli's side have only been able to play two matches, both in the Europa League. On 22nd August, they thrashed Jagiellonia Bialystok in the first leg of the final qualifying round of the competition, a 4-1 win which they then followed up with a convincing win in the second leg. Ajax, in their last match, beat the Poles 3-0 on 29th August.
