Ajax's former midfielder collapsed during a pre-season friendly match last year, with the Dutch team now admitting that the treatment that was provided on the pitch was 'inadequate.'
The young player suffered a cardiac arrest during the match against German side Werder Bremen, and despite being treated by club medics and being airlifted to hospital, the 21-year-old suffered permanent brain damage.
The club's General Manager Van der Sar, when questioned at a news conference admitted: 'We recognise our responsibility and liability for the consequences of this. For a long time we were convinced that Abdelhak had received the best possible care on the field.'
After the incident, the Dutch club sought an external opinion. Further investigations showed that the defibrilator should have been used sooner to revive Nouri.
'Had this happened, it's possible that Abdelhak would have come out in a better condition. This isn't certain, but it's a possibility,' Van der Sar stated.
Nouri made 15 appearances in his debut season of 2016/17, and was listed in the 2017/18 squad list as recognition from the club.
