40-year-old Dante signs new Nice deal

Reaching the age of 40 in peak physical condition to keep up with the pace of a professional footballer is not easy. But Dante has been able to take care of himself over the years to remain at the highest level. The Brazilian centre-back has renewed his contract for another season with Nice, the club he joined eight years ago from Germany. 

Age does not weigh on a player who will be 41 next October. There is a short list of those in their forties who are still active in the big five leagues, and none has been on the pitch as long as the Brazilian centre-back.

The list of players aged 40 and over includes, in addition to Dante himself, goalkeepers Claudio Bravo and Pepe Reina in Spain - both 41, Mirante and Pegolo in Italy - 40 and 43 respectively, Andy Lonergan in England - 40, and Makoto Hasebe in Germany - 40.

Dante has been essential to Nice's plans to be in the Europa League next season. In fact, no player over the age of 40 has played as much as he has, with over 3,000 minutes in 35 games.

Despite his age, Dante is still ready to give his best. At 40 years of age, he is ready to prove that age is just a number and that nothing matters more for playing than one's physical condition.
