Ajax were the team responsible for stopping Real Madrid in their tracks in the last Champions League campaign. The daring Dutch team challenged half of Europe, including Real Madrid. At Chamartin, the Dutch thrashed Madrid 1-4!

"The 1-4 win at Bernabeu was a crucial win for this Ajax team. There, we showed that we were more than a lucky team. We were a very serious team. We had an idea of how we wanted to play and we captured this on the pitch at Madrid. Madrid weren't the best that they could be, that's true, but to score four goals there and eliminate them from the competition is something not every team does," he remembered in his interview with 'AS'.

It was one of those occasions where players like De Jong (now at Barcelona), or De Ligt (who signed for Juventus), were uncovered. The defender also spoke about the injuries, although these did not seem to matter during the game.

"They are two young players with a lot of talent, they were a plus. This year we lost quality with their departures, but we have won in quantity. Last year, there were 13 or 14 of us that played all the time. This year, with new signings, we can all do what we can do in the same way, just with the peace of mind that we did not have last year. Ajax's way of playing is something makes it hard for us to be missed.", Tagliafico said.

Ajax will face Valencia in this week's Champions League game. The Ajax footballer spoke about the current situation: "I know that they have changed coach. I don't really know the motives behind this, but I suppose that it would be because something did not go well. When you play in the Champions League, everything is forgotten. You all saw it, they won in London. It's going to be a very close group."

He also recognised Atletico's offer. "There was some interest. There was talk of me leaving this summer. Ajax made it clear that they didn't want to sell me. I was fine here so we agreed that I'd stay on another year. I am here now and in the next summer market we will see, obviously with other conditions. There are always things to improve, but I didn't want to force a way out."
