Liverpool receive major boost in Florian Wirtz pursuit

Bayern Munich looked to be one step away from sealing the deal for Florian Wirtz, but the script has seemingly flipped now. According to David Ornstein and Sacha Tavolieri, the 22-year-old playmaker is on the verge of a move to Liverpool.
Manchester City and Real Madrid have long dropped out of the battle for the Germany international, leaving the Bundesliga champions to tussle with the Premier League champions to acquire the services of Wirtz.
Wirtz has reportedly informed Vincent Kompany's side about his decision to join the Reds. The Bayer Leverkusen midfielder is said to have already visited north-west England and begun his search for a new house.
While club-to-club negotiations have yet to begin between Liverpool and Leverkusen, the news is a major boost for Arne Slot's side, who will be looking to splash 150 million euros to seal the deal for the player.
Wirtz is not the only Leverkusen member who could be landing at Anfield this summer, with his teammate, Jeremie Frimpong, also expected to be announced after an agreement was reached for a transfer worth 35 million euros.
Meanwhile, this summer is proving to be disastrous for the second-placed German side, who are set to lose the duo alongside head coach Xabi Alonso, who will soon be unveiled as Real Madrid manager after Carlo Ancelotti's exit was confirmed.
Florian Wirtz has been crucial for Leverkusen over recent years, particularly in leading the club to an unbeaten season and German double last term. In the 2024/25 campaign, he has scored 16 goals and provided 14 assists from 45 appearances across all competitions.
