'I had lost the joy of playing': Tearful Antony reveals his darkest days at Man Utd

Real Betis sensation Antony has spoken candidly about the challenges he faced at Manchester United, revealing moments of deep personal struggle.
Speaking with TNT Sports Brazil, the 25-year-old shared his emotional story ahead of Real Betis' Europa Conference League final against Chelsea, highlighting how his move to the Spanish side helped him rediscover his love for the game.
"Betis gave me the space to find myself again," he said. "At United, I felt like I had lost the joy of playing. I kept telling my brother that I couldn't take it anymore, and he would tell me to hold on just a bit longer. Those were incredibly hard days."
Breaking down in tears, the right winger recalled being confined to his room, unable to play with his son or even eat. "It was truly tough, but with God's help and the support of my family, I managed to push through, and now I'm very happy here at Betis."
The 2025 La Liga season has seen Antony emerge as one of the most exciting players in Spain, with Real Betis determined to make his loan move permanent. Manchester United are reportedly open to a sale this summer, after the player's revival abroad.
