Chelsea return to the top with Conference League triumph

The Blues, who had lost just once on their journey to the final – a surprise defeat against Legia Warszawa in the quarter-finals – were clear favourites to lift the trophy, having secured a return to the Champions League via a fourth-place finish in the Premier League.
In a thrilling final in Wroclaw, Real Betis took the early lead, but Chelsea fought back fiercely to claim victory in a pulsating encounter on Wednesday.
This victory marks Chelsea's first piece of silverware since their UEFA Super Cup and FIFA Club World Cup triumphs in the 2021/22 season. It's a welcome return to form for the west London club, who will now look to build on this momentum ahead of next season's challenges.
Marc Guiu, a relatively unheralded name before the campaign, emerged as the club's top scorer in the competition, netting six crucial goals to help propel the Blues to the final. His goalscoring prowess has been pivotal in securing the title, especially given his limited Premier League appearances – just three this past season.
Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, a mainstay in Enzo Maresca's line-up, played a crucial role both creatively and defensively. Alongside goalkeeper Jorgensen, the 26-year-old made the most starts for Chelsea in the Conference League, providing consistency and balance throughout the campaign.
Christopher Nkunku, despite featuring in 27 Premier League matches without much fanfare, showcased his quality in Europe. His tally of seven goals (including qualifying rounds) and three assists highlighted his importance in the team's Conference League run, where his flair and decisiveness made a difference on the continental stage.
Enzo Maresca and his squad will now turn their attention to preparing for the rigours of Champions League football next campaign.
Chelsea will need to regroup and ensure they are ready to compete at the highest level, with the aim of re-establishing the dominance the London club has historically enjoyed both domestically and in Europe.
